Anatoli Rybakov

1911–1998

Ukrainian-born Anatoli Rybakov was a Russian novelist, screenplay writer, and children’s author. After studying at the Moscow Transportation Economic Institute, he was arrested and exiled to Siberia in 1933 for counterrevolutionary agitation and propaganda. After his liberation he worked as a transport engineer. His anti-Stalinist novel, Children of the Arbat, was suppressed by the Soviet Union for more than twenty years before its official publication in 1987.
