Amnon Netser

1934–2008

Born in Rasht, Iran, Amnon Netser arrived in 1950 in Israel, where he studied Middle Eastern and international affairs at the Hebrew University. He devoted his career to journalism and to uncovering and recording the literature and history of Persian Jewry. In 1958, he commenced broadcasting daily Persian-language broadcasts for the Voice of Israel radio station. He was professor of Persian language and literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem until his death. His anthology of Persian songs was directed to non-Jewish Persian-speaking audiences, and the texts were transcribed into Perso-Arabic script.
