Abraham Baroff

1872–1932

Born in Russia to a religious family, Abraham Baroff moved to New York in 1890. Working in a factory for many years, he became active in the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) as a strike organizer and from 1915 to 1929, as the secretary-treasurer. He wrote editorials in Yiddish newspapers, including the Forverts (Forward) and Gerekhtikayt (Justice).
