Aaron Pavlovsky

Born in the Rostov region of the Russian Empire, Aaron Pavlovsky was arrested for agitation against Tsar Alexander II in St. Petersburg in 1875. Expelled from the city to the Russian hinterlands, Pavlovsky left Russia for Belgium. He eventually traveled to the United States, becoming involved with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) before moving on to France. Pavlovsky received his degree in agronomy from the École nationale supérieure agronomique de Montpellier, and in 1883, he accepted a position as an agricultural inspector in Argentina. Settling in Mendoza, Pavlovsky contributed to the development of viticulture in the region, and he traveled widely to speak on the subject.
