Born in Haifa, Ralph Bakshi came to the United States as a child, where he grew up in Brooklyn and Washington, D.C. Bakshi is a director and screenwriter of animated films and television series, as well as a painter. In his early career, he worked for the Terrytoons Animation Studio and later for Paramount Cartoon Studios. His films and television productions, including Lord of the Rings, Fritz the Cat, and Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, are often controversial. Bakshi received the ACT Achievement in Children’s Television Award in 1988.
